The slow web, and five kinds of link
Links are where a migration quietly breaks a site's history. There are five shapes here and they must not all be treated alike.
- Root-relative: tarte tatin
- Absolute, old origin: phở bò
- Nested page path: kitchen notes
- Same-page anchor: on patience
- External, which must not be rewritten: the Maillard reaction
On patience
Everything above the fold is the summary; this is the part behind the more tag. Whether that distinction survives is a decision, not an accident.1
- The more tag has no equivalent in most static generators, so it is usually dropped in silence. ↩
